LP returned to France for her second night at La Cigale on May 5th. As on that day I was already in Amsterdam, I decided not to work but to simply enjoy myself and to sightsee as much as possible. I knew it will be crazy to keep up to date afterwards, but it truly was a huge dream for me to visit this city. Thankfully my friend Grisù, kindly sent me her account of LP’s show in Paris.

@moongris8: “This is my tenth LP concert, and my first 2019 tour date. Paris & LP. So. Damn. Exciting. Why does LP is so deliciously hot? So crazy talented? She’s pure adrenaline. Her live shows usually are as insanely amazing as her recorded music… and so much more. So, I had great expectations, crazy wild desire to rediscover the vibes of previous concerts, and now I have bigger memories: that was insanely more than I expected.”

“Can you imagine? I mean, it was in Paris. Paris! When the tour dates came out we chose that place (despite further than other concerts) ’cause we love that legendary city and its ambience… Not our first night in Paris, but our first gig at La Cigale, a small and intimate venue, with dark wood furnishings and red velvet armchairs.”

“The cozy and old-style interiors welcome you in a completely different atmosphere from what you imagined looking at the building’s rather modern exterior facade. A somewhat decadent and dusty charm, so familiar in many ancient European theaters. Our standing room tickets allowed us to be in the front row and very close. From this point of view much better than big venues, I think everyone inside was pretty close to the stage.”

“I must spend a few words about The Powers, a delightful duet that warmed up an already incredibly excited crowd waiting for LP. Their alchemy and their sounds are a real pleasure. And I cannot keep silent about the incredible French fans: waiting for LP they warmly welcomed Mike del Rio and Crista Ru, and when The Powers ended their performarce, the fans tirelessly shouted the name of LP.”
“Then it was time to melt. Suddenly the lights went off. Total darkness. Get ready to experience the roar of hundred of excited fans… so many decibels! The Parisian set list included, as always, both classic and new songs, with a wise choice of song sequence (only missing “Levitator”… I say it in a whisper, but dear LP, if by chance you are reading…).”
“The classics like “Tightrope” (so loved in Europe and Russia), “Other People” and “Lost on You” are a guarentee, a wonderful profane liturgy. She started with Dreamcatcher… delicate and dreamy, so different from the 2017 tour (at that time she often started with “Muddy Waters”, playing her ace in the hole). Dreamcatcher at the beginning was less “boom” than Muddy Waters, but surely didn’t make me regret the show intro 2018.”

“The whole venue sang along to every word from beginning to the end. There was such an explosive level of energy! The first song is always an exciting experience… The lights draw surreal shadows, LP enters the scene, walking resolutely, and everyone’s heart (even hers, I’m sure) wildly beats. So the fate of the night is fulfilled, no turning back. The dynamite fuse is on, now it’s just time to watch the bomb go off. ‘Ooh and I died today’.”
“In a few seconds she understands what kind of crowd she is facing, then she connectes with the audience on a level that few musicians can do… more efficiently than the best technological wi-fi router in the world. There is something mysterious and almost shocking in that unknown force that urges us irresistibly towards another human being, beyond any rational argument.”

“With her I can feel that force. I know that she is simply working and singing a song for the thousandth time, but I don’t care at all: on that surreal night she was singing just for me. “The Power” and “One night in the sun” worked as an antidote against the poisonous and unrequited love. The second one was one of the most poignant moments: intense, absolute, heartbreaking.”

“And “House on fire”… that instinctive, terribly sensual dance. With that song, go straight to hell, no hope, and burn in the flame of suspicion and doubt. Because the inner laceration is never remediable. Another example of how to roll in the mud of love traps can be cathartic. An uneasiness that calms you, and that in the live context turns towards sensual excitement.”
“The electric guitar in “Special” made such an impact on the crowd, the energy was so palpable. And then, the first notes of “Into the wild”! Really? I couldn’t believe my ears… unexpected and for this reason even more captivating. She ended with “Lost on you” , always the best and powerful goodbye: with that song people lost their minds, and their voices too.”

“But her charisma is in every song. She thanked the crowd more than once, using gestures and words and letting everyone know that she was so thrilled to be at La Cigale. And us even more. No ifs, ands or buts: it was worth it. Nth degree. I mean, it’s never enough, is it?” No, it deffinitely isn’t EVER enough!! And now, let’s add few more quotes about LP’s Parisian gig.
@fr_colors: “What a night in Paris! One of the most amazing LP’s gigs I’ve ever seen! LP’s way on stage brings every lost soul happily to hell with that burning Music and then blissfully to heaven with that powerful Voice… I’m hopelessly damned.” @marii0n_nous: “I realized a dream, thank you for this evening, you have given everything again tonight and this voice my god! Thank you for being so simple and magical at the same time. Love.”

@annlizboes: Damn LP! Such a pleasure to see you again and live your music tonight! Thank you for your energy and what you give on stage, so much intensity! Thank you to the whole band, especially to Alex, gosh is he good! Take care of yourself and hope you’ll be strong for the rest of the tour.” @ila_donut_care: “LP – goddess of music in Paris.” @kwatra_jr: “Her name is LP and she is the best.”
@emilie_wild: “Like a boss with your Ukulele. Thanks for all the happiness, and our broken Voices! You gave us the power and the love. Incredible. Strengh and talent. You are such a beautiful, nice and powerful person! Thank you for this wonderful moment with you, for everything! We love you.” That’s all from Paris.
I got back home today, and decided to start with Parisian concert. However I will try to post my very own thoughts on concerts in Brussels and Amsterdam as soon as possible. Today LP has a free from a show day, so thankfully I can catch up a bit with everything! No rest for the wicked. Tomorrow LP is in Germany, where she will perform at the Carlswerk Victoria in Köln.
