Yesterday in the evening, LP took part in Sofar Sounds‘ Coachella Themed Show. It was a special, intimate, stripped down show with Coachella artists that took place at a ‘secret location’ in Beverly Hills. Sofar Sounds (an acronym for Songs from a Room) is a music events startup company, based in Shoreditch, founded in 2009. The company calls itself a global community where guests and artists come together to experience music in an intimate and respectful setting at a secret concert.
Typically, three artists perform at each Sofar gig with no “opener” and no “headliner” and such was the case last night. Apart from LP, other performers were Willie Jones and outsideOUTSIDE. Artists are often filmed, with the edited video uploaded to the Sofar Sounds YouTube channel & shared on the website. I believe LP’s performance was filmed so there should be video in due time. Last night only few snippets were shared, LP sang ‘Into The Wild’, ‘Girls Go Wild’ and ‘When We’re High’. Possibly also ‘Lost On You’.
And a few more trivia about the event. Performers apply to be considered via a form on the website. Local Sofar Sounds lead ambassadors / bookers and their review committees and music scouts curate the evenings. The line-up for a concert is not disclosed until the event starts; the location (often a private living room with an average size of 70 people) is announced 24 hours before the show.
Guests arrive on time for the first act and are encouraged to stay for the entire show. Events are normally BYOB (bring your own bear), and emphasis is placed on the crowd being respectful – switching off their phones and listening. Sofar Sounds also claims that highlighting headline acts encourages people to turn up late and not respect the other performers, so that is why all artists are being treated equal.
As I’ve mentioned, very little was shared, it was indeed a secret, intimate performance. It was also first time for LP to perform at such an event. Lauren Ruth Ward is more familiar with Sofar Sounds, as she performed for them more than three times already, including in her hometown, Baltimore. Some of her performances are up on youtube, my favourite is ‘Did I Offend You’ from May 2016. Check it here.
If anything else pops up, I will update this post. As a reminder, LP will perform at Coachella this Sunday. Her concert will start at 1.35 pm local time. First video that I used in my post came from Sofar Sounds LA Insta-story, second one is courtesy of @dontcallmejimma, also shared via Insta-story. For those who like fashion, LP’s blouse came from new to me brand called DODO BAR OR, she wore Lady M Velvet Blouse and you will find it here.
Anna from Poland. I have been a blogger for a long time, but more in a royal field. Since 'meeting' LP through her music and as a person, a lot has changed. If I'm not working on my blog, I work as a teacher. I love to travel, read & dance. I sing & play uke when no one listens. Music was always a big part of my life.
