On the 7th of July LP was in Belgium, Liège, taking part in Les Ardentes Festival – Belgian multi-day electro-rock music festival. The event is located in the Astrid Park in the Coronmeuse quarter, close to the city centre. Les Ardentes is organised since 2006, with Fabrice Lamproie and Gaëtan Servais as founders. The festival’s name is a French plural noun meaning “The Burning”, a referral to the nickname of host city Liège, La cité ardente (“The Burning City”).
Today I can provide a coverage of the concert courtesy of admin of LP Fans Belgium who kindly wrote about the experience of the day, so I could share it with you: “LP’s concert at Les Ardentes in Belgium was absolutely amazing. I have never been to a festival in my entire life, but of course I made an exception for LP. I got to Les Ardentes quite early. LP’s show started at 7.30 p.m., but I was not going to take any risks”.
“After Mick Jenkins’ performance I got myself a spot in the second row, very close to the stage. I wanted to be in the first row, but this was my first festival and I underestimated it a bit. Only an hour until LP would finally appear on stage. Luckily time flew by because we got to watch J.D., Brian and Elias get ready for the show. More and more people started to gather around. Everybody was super excited to see LP. I really had to stand my ground, there was a lot of pulling and pushing”.
“Then it was finally 7.30 p.m. and somebody (I don’t know who he is) but who seemed quite popular announced LP. He sang something about her in French, went backstage and that’s when we heard the first notes of Muddy Waters. LP walked on stage and the crowd went wild. Her performance was absolutely flawless and the audience hung on her lips. You couldn’t really reach out to her because of how the stage was build, but she did her very best to involve everyone and make them feel part of her show”.
“Once again it was very clear how much she cares about her fans. And I must say that some of the fans went crazy. They started taking of their clothes and they threw them on stage to get them signed. Of course she signed them all with a big smile”. Oh yes, that was very evident during live video via LP Germany. She really took her time and signed as many itmes as possible, if not all!
“When I saw LP in Brussels and Amsterdam, the audience was very calm and peaceful and I really liked the atmosphere of those concerts. This was unfortunately not the case at Les Ardentes. People were literally fighting, pushing, pulling and screaming to get closer to the stage. At one time security had to intervene because people were almost getting hurt. I must say that a lot of people were completely wasted and had a total lack of respect. At one point I almost got sick because people were squeezing me so hard”.
“BUT I just tried to focus on LP, her band and her wonderful songs and I tried to enjoy her performance as much as I could. I saw how much she enjoyed seeing and hearing us sing her songs with her. She really was in an excellent mood. This probably had something to do with her anniversary? During Up Against Me she invited Lauren on stage and they danced together. It was so lovely to see”. I think you are probably right, it’s important to share such moments with the loved ones. For video of that moment click here.
“I didn’t get the setlist, but she sang every song from Lost On You, and one of her new songs “When we’re high” and some songs from “Forever for now” as well of course. Unfortunately all good things come to and end and we arrived at the final song, “Lost on you”. Everybody sang it together and I wanted to hold on to that moment for as long as possible. LP signed some more T-shirts and other stuff. Then she said goodbye to the audience and disappeared backstage. She didn’t jump off the stage to shake hands/great people, but I really don’t blame her. Things were getting more and more heated”.
“Fun fact: (Not really fun but I don’t know what to call it, weird fact maybe). One girl, who I think had one too many drinks, begged me to give up my spot so she could try and reach out to LP. I wanted to give her a chance so I gave her my spot and that’s when she tried to kiss me full on the mouth. Luckily I was able to dodge it. Like I said, crazy audience. Is this what a festival is like guys? :p LP was amazing, the weather was great, the audience was crazy”.
“LP is taking this world by storm!”. Ha! Now that’s a perfect summary of those crazy past months! Thank you again so much for sharing your thoghts about the day. I appreciate each time a fan takes time and and writes about his/her experience. For images of the day visit Facebook websites of FESTIVAL LES ARDENTES (click here), there are few albums and also Pure – RTBF (click here).
LP has also given few interviews, first one for Pure – RTBFcan be found here. I really like it, especially part of origins of LP’s TCB tattoo. Another one with Maya Asma Yvonne Haddad for Les Ardentes can be found here. This one shares insight on what does it take to be LP’s muse… And third one for NowMagazine, hasn’t been published yet, but should up in next few days. For video of the entire concert click here.
Anna from Poland. I have been a blogger for a long time, but more in a royal field. Since 'meeting' LP through her music and as a person, a lot has changed. If I'm not working on my blog, I work as a teacher. I love to travel, read & dance. I sing & play uke when no one listens. Music was always a big part of my life.
