We are already on day 3 of LP’s US Spring Tour, on 13th May she played at the Star Theater in Portland. The Star Theater is a historic former silent film theater that opened in May 1911 as the Princess Theatre. The theater operated as a film theater as well as a burlesque theater and an adult movie theater. The property was owned for several years by Portland film director Gus Van Sant. In the period of 1979–1983 one of the strippers at the Star Theater was a teenage Courtney Love.
In February 2011, the owners of Dante’s (another nightclub & music venue in Portland) took possession of the business and began to remodel and restore the theater into a live music and performance space. The old neon marquee sign was rebuilt in August 2011 in time for the 100th anniversary of the building. Ok, I think that’s enough of history for today.
Now, let’s get back to LP and her concert. Again, courtesy of Elyse, we have some insight info, as she was kind to write about the Portland concert as well. It looks that Portland was even better! Elyse wrote: “I hate to say is, as a proud Seattleite, but Portland Kicked Our Ass. The audience’s energy felt like the collective sensation of awe and adrenaline and angst and lust and love and heartbreak and sorrow and joy and…it was truly unreal. SO real”.
“LP was very interactive, authentic, and made a LOT of jokes. I didn’t want to write anything that might come across as negative in any way, but she didn’t talk much in Seattle, I think one causative factor may have been that there was a major sound glitch (I have no idea what happened but sound was out for quite a while in the middle of her set). The crowd still absolutely adored her, so it’s likely not all our fault either…but I have to tell it like it is. Portland felt like another universe”.
“The venue is the Star Theater, a beautiful historic silent movie theater! Just gorgeous and dripping with velvet. I was front row this time! LP wore the beautiful golden jacket that I believe she wore in B.C., I touched it! No hug, for you or me, sorry babe…she did take a sip of the beer I was trying to give her but she gave it back hahaha”.
“Not one note off all night. It felt like her arias electrified everyone simultaneously. Btw, I had heard people in the front of the “waiting line”, while we were all outside getting soaked by stereotypical Pacific Northwest rain, talking about how they couldn’t understand how LP hasn’t become huge here yet. Hear, hear!”.

“Set list to the best of my availability (I did literally bring a pen and notepad from the hotel to take notes haha..) Muddy Waters, Strange, Tightrope, Up Against Me, You Want it All, Switchblade, Death Valley, Levitator, Suspicion, Tokyo Sunrise, No Witness (crowd was ESPECIALLY stoked here), When We’re High, Lost on You, then encore with Forever for Now and Into the Wild”. Elyse, you have no idea how huge smile it brought to my face! You are awesome!

She continued, “So sadly my legs of the magical LP US tour are completed. I really hope someone takes the torch and communicates about the next show! I really, really want to know how it goes from here ?”.
“I feel so fortunate and thankful beyond measure that I was able to attend these shows, that I have enough money to buy tickets, buy her albums, and have a device to listen to it through. I’m so thankful that LP exists and is brave enough to share her exquisite self with us. Thank you Anna for what you do!”.
Elyse, again, thank you so much for taking time and writing so beautifully about your experience, right after the concert! I’m very happy you got to be in the front row and could touch her and take that bit of magic with yourself. I’m very happy to be meeting such nice people (real LP’s fans!) along this tour and I do hope someone will follow up and carry on the torch you started so wonderfully! Truly, big thank you!
On a side note, today is a free-from the show day, perhaps some promo has been scheduled but I will cover that in the next post. Thanks for reading!
Anna from Poland. I have been a blogger for a long time, but more in a royal field. Since 'meeting' LP through her music and as a person, a lot has changed. If I'm not working on my blog, I work as a teacher. I love to travel, read & dance. I sing & play uke when no one listens. Music was always a big part of my life.
