Believe it or not, last night LP played a real, live show. First one since 2019. I’m not including the drive-in shows. I don’t know if we’re out of the woods yet, and if things are really getting back to normal. But I want to strongly believe in it. I’m sure it must have felt great and kind of surreal, for both LP, band and the entire audience.
But from everything that was shared, the night was magical, LP was in her element, and the crowd was wild and happy to be back in such a familiar setting. Opening act was Elizabeth Moen, last minute replacement for Lauren Sanderson who tested positive for Covid even though being vaccinated. Wishing her speedy recovery!
Here’s LP’s set-list courtesy of Lita Hoover, who was in the audience. As you can see lots of familiar favourites, but also one fresh new title “My Body”. This song will also be ft. in the upcoming Churches album, and I’m sharing a snippet of lyrics & melody with all of you.
I will go straight to the quotes section, as it’s a first post of this kind in a very long time! However I do want to add that LP came to her fans after the show, she took photos, recorded short videos and seemed really happy to be back on the road again. I hope this stays and we all get to hear that awesome voice once again in a real concert…
Now, for the quotes, let me start with Kate, who also kindly let me use her photos in the post. @kate_scott_photography: “Umm okay do you ever go to a show and think “I bet this’ll be good” but it becomes legendary? Yeah, that’s LP. Wow. Thank you Metro Chicago for having me!”
@shoeshineboyproductions: “Nature IS healing. Welcome back, Metro Chicago, Lollapalooza and LP.” @rondicasmith: First show since Peter Hook & The Light in November 2019. Metro Chicago so good to be back!! ! And LP just wow. I’ve been waiting so long to see you and you did not disappoint. Thanks for the tambourine parts.”
@yanaspi: What’s better than having live music back… seeing those artists you discovered a decade ago, still at it, doing what they do best, singing their hearts out. Memories of that sunny day in Indy at the Rathskeller came rushing back when we discovered this beautiful soul and her incredible lungs. Have been thinking of you a lot lately my dear friend in heaven! Miss you Todd.”
@rmanske11: “Kicking off Lolla weekend with my first live concert since COVID, LP at the Metro! Great performance.” @thegiososa: “SUPPORT WOMAN OF ROCK. LP in CHICAGO. Beyond amazing talent!” @nikoveronica: “LP with the fam tonight. I got her harmonica which definitely made my night. Loved the performance.”
@brettstickrod: “Thanks LP for the amazing night! Chicago loves you and can’t wait for your Lolla set! Absolutely amazing concert!” He added on Twitter: @tatchiguy: LP, thanks for an amazing concert last night. Missed you in 2019 but worth the wait! Hope you love Chicago!”
@jennyshanahan_: “Took this one random photo before deciding that I didn’t want to take videos and photos and instead just feel what it felt like to see a real live concert back in Metro for the first time since the early part of 2020. If you’re still reading, and interested… here’s how it felt -“
“- good, and weird, and familiar, and fresh, and emotional, and beautiful, and loud, and it felt like home and it’s good to be home again.” @persepheni88: “Yesterday’s LP concert was like watching an actual Saint come to life. Their performances change you.”
That would be end of quotes. Today is kinda weird. Too many things happening all at once. Apart from the Metro show, SPIN Magazine shared a cover story featuring LP, with awesome photos and a very insightful article/interview about and with LP. To read it click here. Also today (late at night) SPIN will share a special video performance by LP.
And of course there’s an actual Lollapalooza concert. LP will be taking a Tito stage in about an hour. Those in the States are lucky cause you can stream LP’s performance via Hulu. So enjoy the show. I’ll be seeing you all soon enough!
Anna from Poland. I have been a blogger for a long time, but more in a royal field. Since 'meeting' LP through her music and as a person, a lot has changed. If I'm not working on my blog, I work as a teacher. I love to travel, read & dance. I sing & play uke when no one listens. Music was always a big part of my life.
