Yesterday, during LP’s weekly Friday’s chat with her fans, LP performed for the first time her new song titled “Nothing comes before the drugs”. This song was written by LP & Butch Vig (from Garbage) for ‘Puppy Love’ movie, directed by Michael Maxxis.

I first heard about LP’s involvement in this project in October 2018. Director tweeted a link to the podcast by The Portland – the interview with Butch Vig about his love of Portland, Larry Crane’s Tape Op and work on Michael Maxxis ‘s ‘Puppy Love’ feature film, amongst other things.
It turned out, we’ve heard a snippet of this song (not knowing that it is this song) in the Uproxx documentary ‘Come Backstage With LP’ from March 2018 (song starts at 00.41 seconds).

Puppy Love movie starring Hopper Penn & Paz de la Huerta, is set for release in 2020, but movie business is equally intricated as music business, so this may change again. On IMDB its status is ‘post-production’.
In LP’s words:
I wanna tell you this story, about this song, and I’m gonna fuck it up, my normal thing. It’s called ‘Nothing Comes Before The Drugs’, for me. I wrote it for a movie, with this incredible producer named Butch Vig, who did like Nirvana’s “Nevermind”, just the small record 🙂 and Smashing Pumpkins and all the stuff. Amazing shit. He’s the most modest & chill person ever. And this song is not to be played really on ukulele but this song is a song we wrote for a movie. And I was trying to think of something that was really deep cut that I could play you, and I found it (that’s why I’m also late), like 10 minutes before I called in and I wanna try it for you. So it’s not out, it’s not a song that’s out, I don’t know if it will ever be out, it’s in the movie called “Puppy Love”, which Sean Penn & Robin Wright’s son (Hopper) is in, and he’s really cool and I don’t know when it’s coming out. And this song is about one of the main characters, a drug addicted prostitute, which sucks, so this song is that…

There you go, something that no one’s ever heard before. Never. Ever. But it’s really cool, and it was fun cause Butch & I we wrote it to a scene in the movie. We’ve got to see the scene, and we wrote this really weird thing, that I thought it was really cool, but then the directors didn’t like it and they came over and they were like ‘could you do it more like this or whatever’, and then we wrote that and I love it and I wanna put it on one of my records but I told you, it’s so complicated, what goes on the record and what doesn’t go on the record, oh my god… I can’t even talk about it. Anyway, hope that was ok.
Anna from Poland. I have been a blogger for a long time, but more in a royal field. Since 'meeting' LP through her music and as a person, a lot has changed. If I'm not working on my blog, I work as a teacher. I love to travel, read & dance. I sing & play uke when no one listens. Music was always a big part of my life.
