Today, when I was sleeping, LP dropped a bomb, meaning, she released a studio version of her latest song “When We’re High”. And what a song it is. I instantly fell in love with it ever since I heard it via recent live performances during ‘Smoke Em If You Got Em Tour’, but now I can finally hear the pure quality of LP’s operatic voice. I used to be a soprano during my college years, but what she does with her voice is unbelievable. If you need a proof, just check this video! I’m in love!
Now, about the meaning of the song… Yesterday LP threw a release party at YouTube Space in London, and during that party LP joked with the crowd about this song. Now, don’t take it too literally, LP is a big joker, and that’s how you should take it, as one big joke. Below is a transcript from LP Fan Club UK video that can be found here.
Someone from the crowd: We/I love you. And some other screams. LP: “And I love you. Well I didn’t hear that, but it sounded cool. So this is a release party, right? So, this is a new song, that’s gonna be on a new Deluxe record so it’s called “When we’re high”. Yeah, so don’t let people gettin’ weird about it, like “oh, yeah, that’s a great message”. According to Music – News article, “When We’re High” ‘was written and produced by LP herself, as well as Mike Del Rio and Nate Company – the same team behind the international smash “Lost On You”. “When We’re High” is the result of Mike and Nate being flown to Paris in late 2016 to finish the album as it was the only available time in LP’s schedule’. I believe this was followed by studio sessions in late February/early March of 2017, as we saw some tiny snippets via LP’s Instagram stories, including Lauren Ruth Ward recording backing vocals.
5th May is only a week away, and I CANNOT wait for the release of the full Deluxe album, which of course, I have already pre-ordered. Only week!
