Recently I feel like LP’s ‘world domination’ (as she once jokingly said in the interview), is happening perhaps on times slowly, but definitely & surely. LP has been ‘discovered’ several times since she started making music.
First time in 1998 by David Lowery of the band Cracker, who saw LP perform around that time and featured her on the “Cinderella”, a hidden track on the band’s album, Gentleman’s Blues.
Then, in 2006 when LP performed at the famed music conference, ‘South by Southwest’ that ended up with a bidding war for her among major record labels. She eventually was signed by L.A. Reid to his Island Def Jam Music Group, part of Universal Music Group.
Despite this success, all the other labels that followed in signing LP, didn’t bear any fruit… But LP was gaining fame as a songwriter and in 2009/2010 as an incredible singer, when she was doing cover sessions during (now famous) Bardot, Soho House or Sayers Club nights.
In September 2011, LP signed a deal with Warner Bros. Records, and “Into The Wild” was prominently used in a Citi Bank national TV ad campaign (in November 2011).
That song, that deal and that ad was a break-through LP needed. While deal with Warner wasn’t perfect one and LP parted ways with them eventually, but despite all the hardship she’s experienced, she never gave up…
After being signed to an indie label, Vagrant, and putting out an EP titled “Death Valley”, in 2016 LP was discovered in Europe, thanks to “Lost On You” being licensed to a radio stations.
Ever since then, LP has been taking the whole Europe by the storm, with other continents catching up, including Latin America, where shortly LP will begin her tour.
Just yesterday (October 1st, 2019) Samsung released a commercial advertising their latest phone and in that commercial we can hear LP’s “Strange”. It’s not just one line (like they used in a Citi Bank ad), but it’s a 1 full minute of LP’s powerful voice.
I believe this, this will push her even further. They say, “the sky is the limit”, but knowing LP – the power of her voice, charisma and her music can break even that limit. I’m just very happy to be part of her incredible journey!
UPDATE: I’ve reached out to Walker – music and sound company specializing in supervision, original content, licensing, and creative strategy. Company which supervised music for Samsung’s commercial. I’ve asked why they decided to choose LP. And here’s their beautiful response:
We chose this song because of how it encapsulates and honors being different! Strange is beautiful! This ad sets out to tell a diverse set of stories and LP was really the perfect artist to source our music from
Really, there’s nothing to add from me. It was the perfect choice for that particular ad and its story.
Anna from Poland. I have been a blogger for a long time, but more in a royal field. Since 'meeting' LP through her music and as a person, a lot has changed. If I'm not working on my blog, I work as a teacher. I love to travel, read & dance. I sing & play uke when no one listens. Music was always a big part of my life.
