This time I wanted to give it a try and write down possible lyrics to one more of LP-songs that in the end didn’t make it to any of her records. This one was written in 2012 and played live several times the very same year. Since it’s really gloomy, rainy and dark all the time where I live, this fun, summertime jam should put us all into better mood. Here’s what LP said about this song during her WBR’s Summer Session: “I don’t know if we have time for one more, but we thought maybe we’ll do like a little, a little ah summer thing. Just for fun. We’re experimenting with this one. Ah, it’s called ‘Wanted’. I just heard some interesting news about it, but, it’s cool. It’s a summertime thing, you need to get a drink.”

Not sure what those interesting news were, but looks like in the end nothing happened with this song. LP couldn’t record proper album till 2014 (due to many reasons, beyond her control), and this one shared similar fate as many other LP songs from that period. Only two live recordings can be found online. One mentioned above (from June 2012), shared via ‘The Live Room powered by Warner Music’ youtube, and titled LP live at WBR’s Summer Sessions Concert Series. It was a live stream, and this song starts at about 58 minutes. For video click here. Another one recorded in August at The Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas can be found here. Additional video of the same performance is here.

The WBR’s Summer Sessions concert is worth watching in fullness as it gives us really great insight & background story of LP as a singer and songwriter. It provided truly great remarks from LP herself as well as from Jeff Fenster. Jeff (former Executive Vice President of A&R at Warner Bros. Records), discovered LP properly when she performed at Soho House club in 2011. Remember that amazing rendition of “Someday” by LP? That’s exactly when this happened. Video here. However, watching this concert is a really bitter-sweet experience. Sweet, because we know now it all turned out for better for LP, but at that time, watching this, hearing those words, LP must have thought, ‘wow, this is really happening now’, but she was let down for the ‘x’ time in her career.

Jeff Fenster alone said (at that time): “I’ve always loved voices, since I was born. And I remember the first time I heard Otis Redding, and the first time I heard Aretha Franklin and the first time I heard Bob Dylan, and the first time I heard Janis Joplin, and the first time I heard Jeff Buckley. Ahm, I could go on, ahm but that’s probably been the thing that’s most moved me personally in music. And a little over six years ago [that’s 2006!!!!] I heard one of those voices for the first time. And that was LP. My good friend Billy Steinberg, the amazing songwriter, was one of the first people I talked to about LP and he is here with us today somewhere, so I wanna acknowledge Billy cause he’s a part of this story.”

“And, anyway, that wasn’t the right time for the world to hear LP as an artist [my question is why?] and she turned to songwriting in recent years and writing for other people and her incredible talent as a songwriter allowed her to be a real success doing that. But at some point last year, she was kinda convinced to go back into performing her original material. And, I was lucky enough that a friend of mine told me that she was doing a show at Soho House here. And I went to that show and literally the second that I saw LP I knew that this was the time for her and this was the time for us to work together. And that the world was ready to become a more interesting and exciting place, by means of LP’s music.”

“When we brought her in to the A&R meeting for the first time and played her music, people here got it immediately and fell in love immediately. Rob [Cavallo] became an instant, huge fan and is gonna produce LP’s record. And I think it’s just the most moving and I’m really honored. I’m a little farklempt [choked] right now. I’m really honored to introduce this artist. This in an artist that we’re going to break, Warner Brothers Records is going to break. [applause]. And we’re going to do that because when the music is that great, when the talent is that great, when the songs are that great, and when you have an incredible team, which we have of all the people at Warnes Brothers here, that are working on a project, you know, led by Ester and everyone else that’s involved. When you have a great management team, you know, Rebel One, Mark and Mike of course, and Zsuzsa and everybody. The world will take notice and we’re not gonna stop until everyone does. Ladies and gentlemen: LP!”. The rest, as they say, is history….
Setlist: Levitator, Someday, Tokyo Sunrise, Salvation, Fighting with Myself, Into The Wild, Wanted.

WANTED by LP – possible lyrics
Wanted, wanted, wanted, wanted
Being a lover can be such a waste of time
Woo, hoo, ooo
Say, now
You’re in trouble, when there’s one that kinda blows your mind
Woo, hoo, ooo
When you go catch their eye
they think you’re a liar
when you don’t then they say
goodbye for a while
it’s a job cause you know
they want you to chase
don’t be slob
cause there’s one to jump in your place
Here we
Wanted
not like by the police
wanted
something a little more sexy
wanted
why you wanna play so hard to get
wanted
love can be so lonely
wanted
they say you’re the one and only
wanting
why you wanna play so hard to get
They wanna be discovered
But they’re still so undercover
it’s a struggle evey day and night
Woo, hoo, ooo
It’s a no, then a yes
they’re want you to guess
and no disrespect but give it a rest
Here we
Wanted
not like by the police
wanted
something a little more sexy
wanted
why you wanna play so hard to get
wanted
love can be so lonely
wanted
they say you’re the one and only
wanting
why you wanna play so hard to get
ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Don’t be afraid to jump in the fire
you bring the wood and I’ll bring the light up ..?
Don’t pull your tail I know you’re a tiger
Just let me be the one you desire
Ooh let me love
Ooh let me love
Wanted
not like by the police
wanted
something a little more sexy
wanted
why you wanna play so hard to get
ooh
wanted
love can be so lonely
wanted
they say you’re the one and only
wanting
why you wanna play so hard to get
