Hi guys! After a year of no shows at all for me, last night I’ve had a preview of LP’s live-streamed concert, that will take place later today. The experience was courtesy of Veeps, a company built by Joel and Benji Madden of Good Charlotte. Veeps began as a platform for artists to sell VIP Packages with no commissions but has pivoted into ticketed streaming in reaction to the COVID-19 crisis.

After purchasing a ticket that included such VIP experience, yesterday I (amongst other fans), was able first to tune into the live soundcheck. There was a chat opened for us (that started 30 minutes before the event). We could also chat during the soundcheck and share the experience. I must say, the sound was awesome and I’ve had no glitches at all. It all went smoothly.

Soundcheck lasted for about 20 minutes. We’ve heard snippets of 1. No witness, 2. Dreamcatcher, 3. Shaken, 4. Dreamer, 5. Muddy Waters, 6. The One That You Love, 7. Power & 8. Switchblade. LP was pumped to sing and she was backed by her usual & best possible band: Alex Feder on guitar, Brian Stanley on bass, Max Mitchell on keys & Neal Daniels on drums.
It was awesome to hear a snippet of The One That You Love (I’m including that video for you), and I loved hearing my other favourite songs, such as No Witness, Muddy Waters or Switchblade with incredible solo guitar by Alex. LP was relaxed and chatty and shared few fan facts with us throughout the soundcheck.

She joked that Alex is growing hair (as she spoke), and that he reminds her of Michael Tighe, which makes her Jeff Buckley and LP is a huge Buckley fan. The new pink LP logo on the drum set was painted by Lauren the night before at 1 am. And before the Muddy Waters LP also mentioned to her band that her old tambo that was stolen last year from her Glasgow show was safely returned to her.

LP thanked her fans for putting the word out, as it turned out it was returned mostly because of LP-fans help, which is awesome and made me incredibly proud. She mentioned also that the sound of that tambo is all over the new record. That even though Mike Del Rio has tone of other tambos, this one is still the best. LP also thanked Donna of My LP Obsession for sending the flowers.

After the soundcheck, we went to another window at the Veeps website, to watch the interview with LP. Interview was conducted by Allison Hagendorf – the Global Head of Rock at Spotify, national television host/live announcer and music journalist. Allison’s resume is very impressive. The interview was incredibly relaxed and funny, and LP was in her best element.

She joked many times and had a really great time. Interview was about 40 minutes long, LP spoke about her new single and the message behind it, her success and the global response to her music. LP says that it’s the emotional element, that her music hits, both lyrically & musically. She also spoke about her collaboration with Mike Del Rio and Nate Campany and why they work so well together.

Another fan tidbit, one of the first songs ever written by LP & Mike is called Lightning and it ended up on Mylene Farmer’s Désobéissance record, under the title “Des Larmes”. Another song they did together was “Night Like This” and the demo version was much different to the final production that ended up on “Forever For Now” record. LP promised in one of her live chats to find that demo & share… I still hope it will happen.

LP also mentioned that she used to play soccer and softball, which made her stronger. Then she spoke in detail about the video for The One That You Love. LP loved the scenery where they shot (Big Sky Ranch) and it was cool for her to be in the places that she recognized from the “Westworld” series. LP also mentioned her co-star, horse Madara, who first were giving her a side-eye but they ended up building a relationship.

She joked that the handlers of Madara were relieved that she actually had been on the horse before (LP’s mom had a horse for a while and LP rode quite a lot in her youth), however she wished she had brushed her skills before the video, so she could take off on Madara (I kinda wish they would have done a wide shot gallop scene, but maybe some other time).
Then they talked about the significance of LP’s upcoming live stream concert, her talent for strong whistle (that part was hilarious) and how the process of the new record is going. LP talked about the inspirations, what helps in that creation. She mentioned that they got help from Yasmil Marrufo on a few tracks. And that this new record will have a lot of sounds and vibes that we haven’t seen/heard from LP yet.

That there are some dancy vibes and LP is using her voice a little bit softer. Which makes LP and us quite excited for what’s in ‘LP-store’ for us. Then LP spoke about her idols that inspire her (Stones, The Beatles, Queen, Nirvana, Green Day & one of her biggest inspiration that is Jeff Buckley). LP also mentioned one of her recent findings, Tamino – I must say his music grew up on me a lot during self-isolation!

Finally there was this great question, how LP’s music resonates with her fans and what role it plays. LP used word ‘solice’ to summarize it, but she also added that she hopes that her music takes people from the quiest emotion to screaming our heads off. And that music is healing, that it does put you back together. And about the connection element of the music.

Which brought Allison to a perfect summary, she thanked LP for her beautiful heart and for being a unifier of diversity. That was such a funny and beautiful part of the interview! I really hope that this interview will be available to public and LP fans at one point, cause it was really insightful and hilarious at times (what is a rock’n’roll missionary position, lol).

And that’s it! I hope I brought that part of the Veeps experience a little bit closer to you. I’m excited for tonight’s concert. Obviously it’s gonna be incomparable to what you are experiencing when you are actually witnessing live music, but because of what’s going on in the world today, at least we’ll get a reminder of that feeling and that’s important and valid too.
Thanks to everyone who said hi last night and I’m very much looking forward to ‘seeing’ you all tonight! LP will rock us for sure!
UPDATE: since [PIAS], LP’s new label made the interview public (via this link), I’ve published it to my YouTube as well. Now you can watch it too! and you really should, it’s a must-see for every LP fan!
Anna from Poland. I have been a blogger for a long time, but more in a royal field. Since 'meeting' LP through her music and as a person, a lot has changed. If I'm not working on my blog, I work as a teacher. I love to travel, read & dance. I sing & play uke when no one listens. Music was always a big part of my life.
